Synopsis

Two sets of parents meet to discuss a playground altercation between their children. What starts as a civilized discussion quickly devolves into chaos as the parents’ true colors are revealed. The play explores themes of social decorum, parental roles, and human nature as the characters navigate through escalating conflicts and confrontations. As the evening progresses, the veneer of civility is stripped away, exposing the raw emotions and underlying tensions within each character. The play offers a darkly comedic look at the complexities of human relationships and the fragility of societal norms.

Synopsis

A  poignant but wildly funny play about the chaos of childbirth. Carolyn and her Quebecois husband Michel have decided to have their first baby at the old family farmhouse where they live with her irascible grandfather, Russell. The birth will be attended by a midwife, Dawn. It will NOT be attended by her estranged parents, her mother and her father Bill, who is Canada’s foremost obstetrician. The problem is that Carolyn is determined to have a reconciliation supper for her family at the farmhouse. Will they all survive the experience and, in the end, find hope?

Russell (Gramps) Bingham, grandfather – 60 – 85, male, “grandpa-looking” type, former farmer

Irascible and stubborn

Michel (Mish) Charbonneau. Carolyn’s husband – 22 – 30, male, dairy farmer, future pere.

Authentic French-Canadian accent

Kind but very protective of the milk room, which he has arranged the way her like it.

William (Bill) Bingham. –  50 – 60, male, leading obstetrician, midwife detractor

Dawn Shaw – old enough to be a midwife, is or presents as female, dedicated and caring

Medically practical and competent.
